平成28年の言葉
常不軽(じょうふぎょう)～常に軽んぜず～
たくさんのお経の中で、延暦寺が大切にするのは『妙法蓮華経(みょうほうれんげきょう)』（法華経）です。
この法華経の中に「常不軽菩薩(じょうふぎょうぼさつ)」という名の菩薩さまが登場します。その菩薩さまはお名前の通り、常日頃に出逢う人々や目にする草花や木々、石ころなど「すべてが皆、仏の悟りを得られる方々である、大切な存在なのだから決して軽んじない」と尊く敬い拝まれました。
自らを省みれば、「人や動物、植物など全ての生命は言うまでもなく、この世の全ての存在にいのちがあり、それらがすべてご縁によって繋がり合い支え合っているのだ」と、いつも何かのお蔭をいただいて生かされていることに気付くことが出来るでしょう。そこにまた、すべての出逢いを疎かにせず、粗末にせず、「拝まずにはおれない」という尊い心が現れると思います。
あなたに逢えてよかった、あなたが居てくれてよかった。

Never Despise Anything
Among the sutras, we think the Lotus Sutra is the most important sutra at Enryakuji.
In this sutra, there is a chapter entitled “The Bodhisattva Despises Nothing,” which means never belittle others, but venerate them because all beings humans, flowers, trees or rocks that we see in our daily life are significant and will become Buddhas.
When we look back at our life, needless to say, all humans, animals and plants have lives, but we also see that everything that exists in this world has life. We understand that we are all interconnected, supporting each other. With this in mind, with respect and love in our hearts, we do not ignore or waste anything or anyone, but venerate everyone and everything we meet.
I’m glad to have met you. I’m happy you are with me.
